1. Alternative-fuel vehicles outsell petrol cars for the first time

   CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles together took 41.95% of the passenger vehicle market in August 2026 against petrol’s 40.85%, according to Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations data. The industry retailed 24,23,201 units in the month, up 17.51% over a year earlier.
