Shelton won the US Open quarterfinal 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(7), finishing at 3.34 a.m. on 9 September — the latest finish on record at Flushing Meadows. It was his first win over Alcaraz. Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina reached the women’s final.

Roger Federer was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on 30 August. The Swiss broke down during a light-hearted speech in which he took a trip down memory lane, called the induction one of the greatest honours of his career and said he was still writing his love letter to tennis.
